1:23 1:25 Lester
1:25 1:27 hold good evening and welcome we were
1:27 1:30 reminded today why they call it a trade
1:30 1:33 War as the US and Canada exchang crossb
1:33 1:35 salvos over electricity and aluminum
1:35 1:37 while the markets regained some of their
1:37 1:40 lost footing attributed to Trump's trade
1:40 1:43 policies and fears of a recession the
1:43 1:45 president offering a more optimistic
1:45 1:47 assessment of the economy today even as
1:47 1:50 he threatened new unspecified tariffs on
1:50 1:52 Wall Street meantime the major indexes
1:52 1:55 once again closed in negative territory
1:55 1:57 but not as far a drop as yesterday's
1:57 2:00 eyering selloff on the the trade front
2:00 2:03 today the Canadian province of Ontario
2:03 2:06 agreeing to pause its 25% search charge

2:08 2:11 New York and Minnesota after the Trump
2:11 2:12 Administration threatened to hike
2:12 2:15 tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum
2:15 2:19 by 50% Peter Alexander leads off our
2:19 2:21 coverage with the market suffering
2:21 2:23 another significant slide days after
2:23 2:24 president Trump would not rule out a
2:24 2:27 possible recession tonight the president
2:27 2:30 with a different take do you think a
2:30 2:32 recession I don't see it at all I think
2:32 2:34 this country is going to Boom all of it
2:34 2:36 punctuating another round of whiplash in
2:36 2:39 president Trump's trade war with Canada
2:39 2:40 this morning the president announcing he
2:40 2:42 would double the tariffs on Canadian
2:42 2:44 aluminum and steel set to go into effect
2:44 2:47 tomorrow retaliation after Canada
2:47 2:49 slapped a 25% search charge on
2:49 2:52 electricity going to three US states if
2:52 2:55 the United States escalates I will not
2:55 2:58 hesitate to shut the electricity off
2:58 3:00 completely president Trump posting can
3:00 3:02 you imagine Canada stooping so low as to
3:02 3:05 use electricity that so affects the life
3:05 3:07 of innocent people as a bargaining chip
3:07 3:10 and threat tonight Ontario's leader
3:10 3:12 backing down saying he's suspending that
3:12 3:15 electricity search charge on the US we
3:15 3:16 have to stop the bleeding we have to
3:16 3:19 make sure we protect uh both countries
3:19 3:22 and as we're we're duking it out back
3:22 3:24 and forth China's laughing president
3:24 3:26 Trump now scrapping his threat to double
3:26 3:29 the tariffs on Canada the president
3:29 3:30 sharing those plans while promoting
3:30 3:32 Teslas at the White House one of which
3:32 3:34 he says he'll buy I said that is the
3:34 3:37 coolest design a show of support for one
3:37 3:39 of his most powerful advisers Elon Musk
3:39 3:42 with Tesla stock plummeting nearly 50%
3:42 3:44 since inauguration day and police
3:44 3:46 investigating a series of attacks on
3:46 3:49 Tesla's showrooms and vehicles he
3:49 3:50 shouldn't be penalized because he's a
3:50 3:53 patriot he's an incredible Patriot some
3:53 3:55 say they should be labeled domestic
3:55 3:57 terrorist I will do that I'll do it as
3:57 3:58 for president Trump's tariff supporters
3:58 4:00 say they level playing field for
4:00 4:03 American workers in West Virginia steel
4:03 4:06 worker Mark gpus leads the local union
4:06 4:09 it's not going to save jobs it's going
4:09 4:11 to create jobs over time if tariffs
4:11 4:14 weren't imposed I think uh uh still
4:14 4:15 workers will lose their jobs in many
4:15 4:18 cases the United Auto Workers Union is
4:18 4:20 also backing the Trump tariffs but in
4:20 4:22 Idaho contractor Steve Martinez spent
4:22 4:24 hundreds of thousands of dollars
4:24 4:27 stockpiling Lumber after president Trump
4:27 4:29 first announced tariffs on those
4:29 4:32 Canadian Imports but then paused them
4:32 4:34 how are these threats of tariffs already
4:34 4:37 impacting you so we just have a ping
4:37 4:39 pong approach to this um we absolutely
4:39 4:42 can't operate in that in that Arena um I
4:42 4:44 don't there's no certainty Peter another
4:44 4:46 big headline you're watching today House
4:46 4:48 of Republicans passed a funding bill
4:48 4:49 this gets past the threat of a
4:49 4:50 government shutdown yeah Le you're right
4:50 4:52 this happened late tonight and president
4:52 4:54 Trump personally lobbied several
4:54 4:55 conservatives several conservative
4:55 4:57 Republicans the house now narrowly
4:57 4:59 passing that short-term spending bill
4:59 5:00 will keep the government open through
5:00 5:02 September just one Republican voted
5:02 5:04 against it just one Democrat voted for
5:04 5:06 it that means it now goes over to the
5:06 5:07 Senate where Republicans there are going
5:07 5:09 to need the help from Democrats to avoid
5:09 5:11 a government shutdown going forward all
5:11 5:13 right Peter thank you our Brian Chung
5:13 5:14 has been down at the New York Stock
5:14 5:16 Exchange and what was another brutal day
5:16 5:18 for the markets Brian what are people
5:18 5:19 saying
5:19 5:21 tonight Lester Traders here have been
5:21 5:23 telling me the volatility is not showing
5:23 5:25 signs of being over underscored by what
5:25 5:27 was another Roller Coaster Day on Wall
5:27 5:29 Street after markets endured their worst
5:29 5:30 Trading day of the year yesterday the
5:30 5:32 Dow Jones and the S&P extended their
5:32 5:35 losses today meaning since Trump's
5:35 5:38 inauguration the Dow has now fallen 4.7%
5:38 5:39 and the S&P
5:39 5:41 7.1% among companies that had
5:41 5:43 particularly bad days today American
5:43 5:45 Airlines Delta Airlines and retailer
5:45 5:47 coals those household names indicating
5:47 5:49 they are worried about a pullback in
5:49 5:51 American spending as concerns over the
5:51 5:54 economy grow Lester Brian thank you now
5:54 5:56 to late word of deep cut at the
5:56 5:58 Department of Education Kelly O'Donnell
5:58 5:59 has been reporting this story out and
5:59 6:02 Kelly the president has vowed to get rid
6:02 6:04 of the agency altogether and here's a
6:04 6:06 sign of it Lester dramatic change is
6:06 6:08 coming tomorrow Administration officials
6:08 6:10 say that a notice went out to all career
6:10 6:12 employees at education that due to
6:12 6:14 what's being called a security event all
6:14 6:16 of those employees are being told to
6:16 6:18 stay home tomorrow and have their
6:18 6:20 government issued laptops with them and
6:20 6:23 many of those workers an estimated 2100
6:23 6:25 making up nearly half the Civil Service
6:25 6:27 Workforce will receive termination
6:27 6:30 notices by email losing their jobs
6:30 6:32 effective March 21st I'm also told some
6:32 6:34 of the leases for federal Education
6:34 6:36 offices around the country are expected
6:36 6:38 to be canceled Lester Kelly O'Donald
6:38 6:39 thank you now to the possible
6:39 6:41 breakthrough involving the war in
6:41 6:43 Ukraine with Ukraine announcing it is
6:43 6:45 agreed to president Trump's 30-day
6:45 6:48 ceased fire plan and the US reinstating
6:48 6:50 American military aid and intelligence
6:50 6:53 sharing Kier Simmons has late
6:53 6:56 details tonight in what could be a
6:56 6:58 significant step towards peace Ukraine
6:58 7:01 agreeing to president Trump's proposal
7:01 7:03 for a 30-day ceasefire with the
7:03 7:05 president turning the spotlight on
7:05 7:07 Russia announcing he will speak to
7:07 7:09 President Putin hopefully President
7:09 7:11 Putin will agree to that also and we can
7:11 7:14 get this show on the road Secretary of
7:14 7:16 State Rubio leading the talks in Saudi
7:16 7:19 Arabia also saying Russia must make the
7:19 7:21 next move Ball's now in their court if
7:21 7:23 they say no then we'll unfortunately
7:23 7:24 know what the impediment is to peace
7:24 7:27 here it's a reset for Ukraine but at a
7:27 7:30 cost after that diplomatic disaster in
7:30 7:32 the Oval Office where president zinski
7:32 7:35 insisted on US security guarantees
7:35 7:38 you're gambling with World War III
7:38 7:39 tonight's statement commits to
7:39 7:42 guaranteeing Ukrainian prosperity and
7:42 7:45 security it does not say how but the US
7:45 7:47 will resume intelligence sharing and
7:47 7:49 military aid for
7:49 7:51 Ukraine overnight the largest ever
7:51 7:54 Ukrainian drone attack against mosow
7:54 7:56 matched by another Russian Onslaught the
7:56 7:59 latest in an escalating Kremlin campaign
7:59 8:03 a day of War and Peace talks ending with
8:03 8:05 Ukraine's president zalinski declaring
8:05 8:07 if Russia agrees silence will take
8:07 8:10 effect immediately but whether Russia
8:10 8:13 will agree depends on President Putin
8:13 8:15 and president Trump's appetite to
8:15 8:17 pressure him the way he has pushed
8:17 8:21 president zalinski Lester Kier Simmons
8:21 8:23 thank you tonight the Secretary of
8:23 8:24 Transportation is ordering immediate
8:24 8:27 changes to air traffic near Washington's
8:27 8:30 Reagan National Airport with the TSB
8:30 8:32 revealing a startling number of close
8:32 8:34 calls there before January's midair
8:34 8:37 crash here's Tom
8:37 8:40 Costello 6 weeks since the midair crash
8:40 8:42 between an army helicopter and an
8:42 8:44 American Airlines Regional Jet the new
8:44 8:46 Transportation secretary today announced
8:46 8:48 he is permanently limiting helicopter
8:48 8:52 flights around Washington DC and the FAA
8:52 8:54 will roll out artificial intelligence to
8:54 8:57 identify close called Trends Nationwide
8:57 8:59 we're going to make sure we've learned
8:59 9:02 from this air disaster we're going to
9:02 9:03 pay it forward so there's there's not
9:03 9:05 other families that have to go through
9:05 9:07 the pain and anguish of losing a loved
9:07 9:10 one it comes as the NTSB today reported
9:10 9:12 a staggering number of close calls at
9:12 9:14 Reagan National with Choppers flying
9:14 9:18 down the bomic river right off runway 33
9:18 9:22 between October 2021 and December of 24
9:22 9:25 15,24 close proximity of vents between
9:25 9:28 planes and helicopters 85 were very
9:28 9:31 close less than 200 ft vertical
9:31 9:34 separation and from 2011 to 2024 at
9:34 9:37 least one automated cockpit collision
9:37 9:40 avoidance warning every month in more
9:40 9:41 than half the helicopter may have been
9:41 9:44 flying above the 200t limit the NTSB
9:44 9:47 chair says the distances allowed between
9:47 9:50 planes and choppers were dangerous they
9:50 9:53 pose an intolerable risk to Aviation
9:53 9:56 safety Sam Lily was the first officer on
9:56 9:59 the Regional Jet the Legacy for Sam is
9:59 10:01 is going to be obviously that we're
10:01 10:03 going to find ways to reduce the
10:03 10:05 probability of this ever happening to
10:05 10:08 hopefully close to zero secretary Duffy
10:08 10:10 also calling on Congress to spend tens
10:10 10:12 of billions of dollars now to expedite
10:12 10:15 upgrading the nation's Antiquated air
10:15 10:17 traffic control system Lester okay Tom
10:17 10:19 thank you we turn now to the search for
10:19 10:21 a missing us college student who
10:21 10:24 vanished on a spring break trip now new
10:24 10:26 surveillance video shows what appears to
10:26 10:28 be her last known location Jesse kers
10:28 10:31 reports now from the Dominican
10:31 10:33 Republic one moment sudik Shak kunaki
10:33 10:36 was walking with friends and the next
10:36 10:40 she was gone that's kunaki tonight the
10:40 10:41 Dominican Republic's National Police
10:41 10:43 confirmed this surveillance video shows
10:43 10:46 kunaki just before she disappeared last
10:46 10:49 Thursday the University of Pittsburgh
10:49 10:51 student was staying at this punana
10:51 10:52 Resort when she was part of a group that
10:52 10:55 headed toward the beachfront around 4:15
10:55 10:57 a.m. investigators say the 20-year-old's
10:57 11:00 friends returned to their Resort around
11:00 11:02 40 minutes later but kunaki stayed
11:02 11:05 behind with at least one other person
11:05 11:07 her friends then spent the day on an
11:07 11:10 Excursion roughly 12 hours went by
11:10 11:12 before they realized she was missing and
11:12 11:14 told the hotel today the Dominican
11:14 11:18 military scouring the area overhead and
11:18 11:20 underwater by day spring break still on
11:20 11:22 at this Resort people tanning enjoying a
11:22 11:25 swim but overnight police tell us at
11:25 11:27 least twice they've had a team out here
11:27 11:29 watching to see how the water moves to
11:29 11:32 to know where a body might have drifted
11:32 11:33 if someone
11:33 11:35 drowned Dominican Republic's President
11:35 11:38 says one of the last people with kunaki
11:38 11:40 reported they were both hit by a wave
11:40 11:42 investigators also say the last person
11:42 11:44 known to have been with kunaki on the
11:44 11:47 beach a 24-year-old man has changed his
11:47 11:50 story over time and hours after kani's
11:50 11:53 friends returned to the hotel he came
11:53 11:56 back alone today police telling us they
11:56 11:58 found no blood or signs of violence on
11:58 12:00 the beach meanwhile while kuni's family
12:00 12:02 telling NBC news today they're quote
12:02 12:05 experiencing a lot of sadness and pain
12:05 12:07 the family asking for privacy as the
12:07 12:10 search continues Lester okay Jesse thank
12:10 12:12 you in 60 seconds the plant-based
12:12 12:14 substance is popping up everywhere why
12:14 12:17 some are saying katum should be banned
12:17 12:19 While others say it could change their
12:19 12:23 lives
12:23 12:26 forever it can be used as a stimulant or
12:26 12:28 sedative it is legal in much of the US
12:28 12:31 it's low cost and readily available but
12:31 12:33 there are growing calls for regulation
12:33 12:35 and concerns over the safety of what's
12:35 12:38 known as katom Steven Romo explains I'll
12:38 12:40 never forget you know those words he's
12:40 12:43 unresponsive you know nearly two years
12:43 12:46 ago Trish Bone's son CJ holak collapsed
12:46 12:49 at work and died at just 33 I'm
12:49 12:51 confident that it was katom that killed
12:51 12:53 him sold readily at smoke shops
12:53 12:55 convenience stores and gas stations
12:55 12:57 katum is derived from a plant from
12:57 13:00 Southeast Asia and often marketed as a
13:00 13:03 supplement to Boost energy manage pain
13:03 13:05 and even possibly help kick addictions
13:05 13:07 it can be bought in liquid tablet or
13:07 13:11 powder form small doses the DEA says
13:11 13:13 provide a stimulant effect high doses a
13:13 13:17 sedative effect and it's big business
13:17 13:19 forecast to be a nearly $16 billion
13:19 13:23 industry by 2032 bone says CJ was taking
13:23 13:26 a concentrated liquid form for pain
13:26 13:28 after breaking his arm in 2021 did he
13:28 13:30 say it was helping or what were your
13:30 13:31 thoughts when he did say it was helping
13:31 13:33 he wrote in that text it's helping an
13:33 13:35 autopsy found CJ died from Cardiac
13:35 13:38 Arrest due to mixed drug intoxication
13:38 13:40 including katum the other substances in
13:40 13:42 his system bassone says were doctor
13:42 13:45 prescribed medications he'd been taking
13:45 13:48 for years we found I would say hundreds
13:48 13:51 of empty bottles of katum she's now
13:51 13:53 suing the maker of the katum her son
13:53 13:55 took and pushing for a bill that would
13:55 13:58 prohibit the sale of katum in New Jersey
13:58 14:01 like in these States and Washington DC
14:01 14:02 take it off the shelves it's as simple
14:02 14:05 as that but down in Houston mine scolar
14:05 14:08 credits katum with saving her life she
14:08 14:10 turned to katum to deal with chronic
14:10 14:12 back pain after stopping prescription
14:12 14:14 opioids I have degenerative dis disease
14:14 14:16 in both my neck and back taking High
14:16 14:19 powerered opioids my pain level on a
14:19 14:22 good day would be a six but when I was
14:22 14:24 using crat and first got started with it
14:24 14:27 my pain level seriously goes to zero I
14:27 14:30 wouldn't want my kid going into a gas
14:30 14:32 station picking up a concentrated
14:32 14:35 extract and chugging the whole thing
14:35 14:37 Professor Chris mcer of the College of
14:37 14:39 Pharmacy at the University of Florida
14:39 14:42 has studied katum for years he says in
14:42 14:44 low doses it's about as addictive as
14:44 14:46 coffee but there isn't enough research
14:46 14:50 on these new higher do products CDC data
14:50 14:53 from 2023 shows 37 States and Washington
14:53 14:55 DC had
14:55 14:59 1,151 overdose deaths in which katum was
14:59 15:01 detected but kratom's contribution to
15:01 15:05 these deaths is unclear the FDA doesn't
15:05 15:07 regulate it but warns the public against
15:07 15:09 the use of katum for medical treatment
15:09 15:11 the products are on the market because
15:11 15:13 they are treated at at this time as a
15:13 15:15 food or a dietary ingredient the
15:15 15:18 American katum Association accuses the
15:18 15:21 FDA of a Relentless campaign to keep
15:21 15:23 katum off the market rather than
15:23 15:26 ensuring consumer safety the FDA did not
15:26 15:28 respond to our request for comment her
15:28 15:30 having her share her experience with
15:30 15:32 katom I met her on Tik Tok scolar who
15:32 15:35 hosts a podcast about katom says she's
15:35 15:37 far from the only success story but even
15:37 15:40 she agrees more laws are needed for
15:40 15:42 Trish bone my son died and he shouldn't

15:59 16:01 yes so
16:01 16:04 you're we are back with a major policy
16:04 16:06 change if you fly on Southwest Airlines
16:06 16:07 the company saying it will start
16:07 16:10 charging most passengers with some
16:10 16:12 exceptions to check their bags it's a
16:12 16:14 major change from what previously set
16:14 16:16 them apart from other airlines after
16:16 16:19 Decades of allowing two check bags for
16:19 16:22 free returning to president Trump's
16:22 16:24 threats to raise tariffs in Canada many
16:24 16:26 provinces there have already pulled
16:26 16:29 American liquor from shelves in response
16:29 16:31 Maggie vesa reports from Louisville
16:31 16:33 where distilleries are already feeling
16:33 16:35 the
16:35 16:38 impact at M's distillery in Louisville
16:38 16:41 iconic Kentucky bourbon is distilled
16:41 16:44 aged bottled and shipped to more than 80
16:44 16:46 countries their largest foreign market
16:46 16:49 Canada where most provinces are now
16:49 16:51 defiantly pulling American liquor from
16:51 16:54 store shelves it's definitely caused a
16:54 16:57 hit to our business Andrea Wilson is M's
16:57 16:59 Chief Operating Officer orders have been
16:59 17:01 cancelled that's the reality of it
17:01 17:03 already orders have been cancelled yes
17:03 17:05 we have
17:05 17:09 $115,000 of product sitting that product
17:09 17:11 is just sitting here in M's Warehouse
17:11 17:13 with Canada specific labels on these
17:13 17:16 bottles in English and in French they
17:16 17:17 don't know what to do with this and if
17:17 17:20 nothing changes they fear their losses
17:20 17:23 will grow the timing couldn't be worse
17:23 17:25 for many American whiskey producers one
17:25 17:28 study showing the industry recently saw
17:28 17:31 a nearly two % drop in Revenue amid the
17:31 17:33 Slowdown the CEO of Jack Daniel's parent
17:33 17:35 company called Canada's product pull
17:35 17:38 worse than a tariff because it's
17:38 17:40 literally taking your sales away I don't
17:40 17:42 sleep right now you don't sleep right
17:42 17:44 sleep at bro Brothers Distillery Victor
17:44 17:46 yarboro is in the middle of building a
17:46 17:49 massive new Tasting Room that expansion
17:49 17:51 banking on a deal to start selling
17:51 17:54 Spirits in Canada that deal now dead
17:54 17:57 he's scrambling to find a plan B maybe
17:57 18:00 take 5% of that maybe India take 10% of
18:00 18:03 that but he worries any export plan
18:03 18:05 feels like a risk in an industry with
18:05 18:08 profits already going down the drain it
18:08 18:10 could be a country we're speaking with
18:10 18:12 right now to all of a sudden you guys is
18:12 18:13 going to get hit with tff's next and
18:13 18:15 then that deal falls through so it's a
18:15 18:18 constant uncertainty Maggie vesa NBC
18:18 18:20 News Louisville Kentucky we'll take a
18:20 18:22 break then when we come back she's
18:22 18:25 iconic controversial and 26 ft tall

18:28 18:31 statue of Marilyn Monroe to its new

18:33 18:36 home finally tonight a small town fight
18:36 18:39 over a very big statue Liz CZ and how a
18:39 18:42 Hollywood icon found a new
18:42 18:45 home in the resort town of Palm Springs
18:45 18:47 it isn't politics dividing the city it's
18:47 18:51 something much bigger This 26t Tall 17
18:51 18:54 ton statue of Marilyn Monroe would you
18:54 18:55 ever have thought maryn would cause such
18:55 18:58 a stir no I I don't think very few
18:58 19:01 people people thought that depending on
19:01 19:03 who you ask the massive replica of the
19:03 19:05 1950s star is either a beloved piece of
19:05 19:08 art in photo op this is going to be the
19:08 19:12 Eiffel Tower of Palm Springs or an isore
19:12 19:14 I don't consider it art I consider it a
19:14 19:16 tourist attraction blocking traffic
19:16 19:17 according to a lawsuit filed by a group
19:17 19:19 of residents and most notably to Fashion
19:19 19:21 Designer Trina Turk ruining the
19:21 19:23 aesthetic outside the Palm Springs Art
19:23 19:26 Museum where Marilyn has been the last 3
19:26 19:28 years we believe the mid-century modern
19:28 19:30 architect Ure of Palm Springs is really
19:30 19:32 one of the most important tourist
19:32 19:33 attractions we don't think it should be
19:33 19:37 blocked by a 26ft statue on a 2ft plint
19:37 19:38 now for some of the folks who are
19:38 19:40 against the statue it's not just that
19:40 19:41 she's blocking the view of the art
19:41 19:45 museum it's also about the other view
19:45 19:46 it's absurd that you're going to leave
19:46 19:47 the museum and see the backside of
19:47 19:50 someone's underpants from any era Peggy
19:50 19:52 Trot chairs the hotel group that bought
19:52 19:55 the controversial sculpture if there was
19:55 19:58 a da Vinci there would people want that
19:58 20:00 covered up up I I don't necessarily
20:00 20:03 believe it was ever about underwear
20:03 20:06 whatever it is about a court decision
20:06 20:09 was made Marilyn must move $500,000 to
20:09 20:12 relocate her to a park less than 100 ft
20:12 20:14 away I think she finally found her
20:14 20:16 permanent home slightly out of sight now
20:16 20:19 but hopefully more accepted Li BR NBC

2:06 2:08 on electricity imported into Michigan

8:57 8:59 we're going to make sure we've learned
8:59 9:02 from this air disaster we're going to
9:02 9:03 pay it forward so there's there's not
9:03 9:05 other families that have to go through
9:05 9:07 the pain and anguish of losing a loved
9:07 9:10 one it comes as the NTSB today reported
9:10 9:12 a staggering number of close calls at
9:12 9:14 Reagan National with Choppers flying

15:42 15:45 have died it's just not worth the risk

18:51 18:54 ton statue of Marilyn Monroe would you
18:54 18:55 ever have thought maryn would cause such
18:55 18:58 a stir no I I don't think very few
18:58 19:01 people people thought that depending on
19:01 19:03 who you ask the massive replica of the
19:03 19:05 1950s star is either a beloved piece of
19:05 19:08 art in photo op this is going to be the

19:28 19:30 architect Ure of Palm Springs is really
19:30 19:32 one of the most important tourist
19:32 19:33 attractions we don't think it should be
19:33 19:37 blocked by a 26ft statue on a 2ft plint
19:37 19:38 now for some of the folks who are
19:38 19:40 against the statue it's not just that
19:40 19:41 she's blocking the view of the art
19:41 19:45 museum it's also about the other view
19:45 19:46 it's absurd that you're going to leave

19:58 20:00 covered up up I I don't necessarily
20:00 20:03 believe it was ever about underwear
20:03 20:06 whatever it is about a court decision
20:06 20:09 was made Marilyn must move $500,000 to
20:09 20:12 relocate her to a park less than 100 ft
20:12 20:14 away I think she finally found her
